4th of July Fireworks
By Woody Perkins
4th of July fireworks are always fun – and always fun to photograph.
This year, while taking photos on the riverfront in the Quad Cities, I noticed two soldiers behind me who were standing together observing the display. I moved behind them to include them in my shot – and this will forever be my favorite fireworks photo.

I can't think of anything that better captures the meaning of the 4th of July – the celebration of our freedom – than to honor those who protect that freedom every day.
For the techie in you: 17mm lens, f-2.8, ISO 1600, hand held at 1/20th second. No fill light was used; the back of their uniforms were illuminated by ambient lighting in the area
