Don't Get Left Behind
By Nehlsen Staff
No matter our industry, we all strive to be trendsetters, but simply staying current on industry trends can be a challenge in and of itself; and while it requires a commitment of both time and resources, the cost of not doing so can be detrimental to your company’s future success.
Read trade publications
Chock full of industry news, innovations, and events, trade publications are great sources to find out what is going on in your industry. Look for articles that pertain to your line of work and/or specialty, and review your competitors’ ads to see what they are promoting, and what may or may not be working for them.
Go surfing
Surf the internet for the latest industry news. Review your competitor’s websites and blogs, and follow like-minded individuals/companies on Twitter and Facebook. Unlike trade publications, most blogs publish posts daily, making getting the latest industry news easy and timely.
Get out of the office
It’s easy to get stuck in the daily grind, but if your schedule allows, industry tradeshows and seminars can be great learning opportunities. Also look for local chapters of industry organizations that you can become a member of – they’re great for networking and sharing ideas with other industry professionals.
Who is getting press? What topics are people talking about? Where is there room for innovation? How can you set your company apart from your competitors? Monitoring and staying current on industry trends is the first step to becoming an industry leader. Trend spotting sparks ideas and innovation, and promoting these new ideas and innovations helps position you as an industry expert.
